I drove my car today and when I got to where I was going, I was waaay under power (3 Cylinders) and smelling gas-- sure enough, back carb filled to the brim and dripping. Let it dry out, tapped it a bunch on the top and it is still filling. Few questions, how far can I drive, if at all-- and are there any other things I can do to get the float free, without popping the top of the carb?

Thanks as always. Greg

Are you talking Zenith or Weber? Zenith (what I know) , no issue with taking off the stages to get to the float, I surmise this is what you will have to do (but you prob already know that and just need a push).

Sorry, yes, '71 2800 - Zeniths. So removing the vent chimney will get things adjusted? Interesting, I might be able to do that here. I said, float stuck in my post, but as I think about it it probably the needle valve has stuff in it--hence why it is pouring in. Stinks, because I just rebuilt this because I was having this problem. I was great for a while.

Common

Float problem on rebuild is the gasket. Clearances are such that if the gasket is slightly different, the float will hang on it.

Try lowering the fuel level- maybe disconnect the pump and run it dry, poking down the vent hole maybe will work.
