Floor/firewall Insulation

Can anyone post some pics of the digid foam insulation making up the the drivers side floor and firewall.
Mine were "misplaced" in the restoration process, and I have no idea how much space needs to be made up in order for the carpeting to sit properly.

If anyone knows a place to source them, I'd love to now that too.

Lastly, any known salvage yards with E9s in New England??
 
While not impossible, I would guess there is as much chance of finding an e9 in a salvage yard as finding a Ferrari Daytona there.
 
Those rigid foam pieces are a problem. There are two - there's one on the passenger side as well. Because they are bonded to the floor, they tend to get destroyed when the body man rips them out to replace rusted metal.

I managed to glue mine back together after rescuing them from the bodyshop's scrap bin (in their minds, if it ain't metal, it must be junk). Sorry, I didn't measure them before reinstalling and covering with insulation & carpet. The one on the driver's side is much smaller.

Are you reinstalling your insulation & carpet yourself, or having an upholsterer do it? A smart upholsterer will be able to re-create the shape using soft insulation material. If you want a DIY fix, I don't have a good suggestion - perhaps some sort of closed cell foam cut to dimensions taken from a local car?

As Andre writes, finding a good used set will be difficult. I wonder what the professional restorers - Coupe King, LaJolla Independent - use for this?

There actually is a structural foam in different weights. I use it to fill in around pools before rebar and shotcrete that are elevated in a highrise buildings.

My carpet had 1/2" hosehair? Padding but I know it's been replaced.

If I had to guess at a solution, there is a rubber carpet pad that's very dense and used in commercial application where carts, dolleys, etc. are used like in ballrooms.

Maybe someone- Steve- has an original car and can measure?
 
Sorry it seems I misunderstood the foam part. But these floor foams mybe helpful to some.

I thought Jay got it right. There are thick foam pads under the forward sloping part of floor to firewall, several inches thick, not on flat portion of floor itself. They crumble easily if removed.
 
Crumble if removed--yes but--

with a bit of special adhesive--then wrapping the glued structure with polyester cloth similar to forming a surfboard and apply a two part catalyst overall the result is better than original--also it's virtually indestructible. That's what we did for BLUMAX 18 years ago.

I somewhat regret not using Dynamat then--instead had used a dense closed cell foam 1/2" thick--same material used in commercial aircraft as carpet underlay--light, durable, good memory, non-moisture absorbing and relatively inexpensive compared to Dynamat.
