Foam for heater box rebuild

Any experience on replacing foam inside of heater box.
Found one thread talking about it but never identified what kind of foam or a link.

I guess it's there as a sound deadener?

I am finding a lot of foam but what kind would be the best?
Probably the hottest it gets is around 180-200 degrees.
Don't want it to melt.

Also quite a bit of felt type material along edges in many places.
Common felt seems too thick.
Is there something thinner at a fabric store?

Ideas?

I used felt from a fabric store, works great. Use closed cell foam on flaps, mine was black.

Seems like deQ also did this work, but I do not recall his source for the foam.

felt is perfect, just as hbchris said, i used felt too

I got some neoprene foam at the hardware store. About 1/8 thick. That was 20 years ago i did that project.
