My fairly original (in my opinion) Italian delivery/market car had provisions for fogs in the form of switch, relays, holes in the bumper, etc. I put on some Hella TN6 lamps and they fired right up. The owner who sold the car to me imported the car in 1980 and remembers the lights being removed to make DOT happy. The bumper brackets have reinforcing bars welded to them that extend out to the mounting points for the fogs; looks like a nice job with radiused corners, etc. My question is: were fogs ever a factory option where this car would come down the line and be fitted with bumper brackets for fogs as spec'd by some paperwork stuck to the car? Or, left as something a dealer would put on for one reason or another? The parts diagram shows a bolt on reinforcing bracket as well as what appears to be Hella 139s which I have never seen on one of these cars. Anybody with a similar set up or knowledge on this? Thanks!

These items were a dealer installed option. The bar in your bumper might have been from when it was federalized when imported.

The bar only extends to the area underneath the bumper holes for fogs and does not touch the bumper itself. There were no bumper standards for 1972 cars. Thanks for the info. We'll leave it at the dealer did a nice job. Rock solid. Could have put an oversized washer underneath the bumper but actually removed the bumper to weld matching bar stock. So, thanks, wherever you are! Andrew Wilson has a similar car with fogs. Wonder what his set up is like.

My CSi, Athena, has the same red primed reinforcing bar behind the front bumper.

My fog lights are Hella 140s (same size as headlights) with H1 bulbs wired to a relay and inline 15amp spade fuse all controlled by a green push button on the left lower dash and a red telltale on light on the left upper left dash.
