I bought these euro piano tops to boost my HP in my stock engine, had them cleaned and balanced by a machine shop ($160) only to realize they are oversize (89.47mm) and won't fit my engine. Not my finest hour but at least I didn't rip open my engine first. Ask me for more pics or info as needed. $375 obo shipped in USA. Thanks.

May be interested but uhm, Steve,
how could you tell that these wouldn't fit your engine if you didn't open it up?

I'm asking because I think your answer will guide me in my decision. (My engine knowledge is zero, so what follows may not makes sense.. )

My exhaust lets out blue smoke when you take yout off the gas above ~70 km/h (~40 mph), so I think oil get sucked passed the rings. Oil comsumption was 1 liter on 1000 km's. My engine ran fine otherwise but used 1 liter of gas on 4,5 km, about 10 miles to the Gallon. (I suspect the carbs for this) . I never opened the engine up.

Is it a fair conclusion that some improvement is needed?
if so, then a set of pistons would be needed I guess?
And, taking it back to the first question, How could I check if Steve's pistons would fit my block?

"My exhaust lets out blue smoke when you take yout off the gas above ~70 km/"

if that is your simpthoms the cause is more likely to be valve retainers than piston rings

anyway my experience is that if you have not redone your engine by yourself it is probably both

you need to know which oversize you do need (in case you need it) it might be +0,25 or + 0,50 (i do not have here the manuals so i do not know which size those pistons are)
you should open your engine and measure that, because it might be only ring replacement and staying in stock dimension too
price is very tempting

My engine block has not been bored, the pistons in it are stock size, I remembered this when I put a new head/cam on. when I went to confirm these would fit, I noticed they are oversize. I believe these are +.50

DQ is right:)
Blue smoke = oil in combustion chamber = 1. valves sealing rings or 2. very bad piston rings;
I am currently in process of two 3.0 csi engines rebuilding & can tell you that both of them currently have (unhoned yet) ca. 89,26-27mm cylinder bore (pistons are stock piano 89,22), i have 89,50mm piston rings for both & they will need to be shaved ca. 0,8-1mm from length, after honing; but from other side at first i purchased 89,25 piston rings, thought they will be ok, but the gap was 0,6-0,7mm, so less then acceptable specs (0,3-0,5mm), so where changed for 89,50mm.

Steve, remind me please you have carbed 3.0 right?

3.0CS has nominal 89,00mm (piston ca. 88,97).
After rebore + this pistons with standard stroke 80mm will give engine ca. 3023cc

Risking the same dilemma that Steve had, I'm pursuaded by the price to take the gamble.

If I don't need them in the end, they will go back on this board at same price.

( when does the definition " hoarder" apply? )

Erik.

I wanted them also but I don’t know if I can squeeze that much piston in my 2.8. I was told by Carl that you can’t really bore a 2.8.
