Guys, this is a REALLY good car. In addition to this being a great color combo, it is in really good condition.

Exceptional body and paint. Body gaps are excellent, hood gap is great, interior leather is a beautiful rich deep red in very good shape. Really beautiful hand-stitched red vinyl dash. A/c reinstall with new hoses and charge about 3-4 years ago, new electric fuel pump, new ballast resistor, new sunroof cables/overhaul.

This car is exceptional. Most maintenance conducted by Carl Nelson (La Jolla Independent BMW). Upon seeing the car for the first time 4 years ago he stated "Cars this dry are REALLY hard to come by these days". Last fall after he had installed an electric fuel pump he stated " I test drove the car myself, and it's an exceptional driver, very smooth without the usual rattles these coups develop" and " rust is not a problem on this car".

The car needs nothing but a new radio. My intent was to source a Becker Europa...but that will be up the new owner.

History:

I bought this car about 4 years ago when i saw it listed on Ebay by Paul Motor (Montreal Canada) a high end luxury concierge car broker. When i saw the shape it was in and the color combo i had to have it. They imported it for me. I believe (but dont know for sure) they purchased it from an estate upon seeing it listed in Autotrader Canada. The story I got was that it was originally a California car (automatic?) and exported to Belgium in the '90s where a full restoration was accomplished. Polaroid photos that came with it (see photos) show this to be the case, with a "fenders off" restoration. Not a lot of polaroids, but enough to indicate they went to a lot of trouble. Also under the carpets I found what looks to be a Belgium registration tax form with stamps from '90s. There is really no visible indication of any rust "rot" anywhere that I can find...so i believe this restoration was a fairly thorough undertaking. Even the spare tire well does not show any "rot" just some surface rust on the underside, with nothing significant inside (see photos). Shock towers look great.

I cant find a number on the engine....so I've been told that it is a "factory replacement" which makes sense considering the trouble they went through in the restoration. Four years ago i had a compression tested and it was said to be "really good", however i don't have the receipt and notes to call it out by cylinder. The transmission is a four speed. It runs wonderfully. I had new Vredestein tires put on it a couple years ago. I have driven the car very little since I have had it ...i imagine less than 3,000 miles.

The dash covering is exceptional. It is a vinyl cover hand stitched across the front. The way it is done looks really classy...reminds me of the stitched coverings you see in Ferraris of the '60s. The red dash gives the car a very sporty look, in addition to the timeless elegance of an E9.

Flaws: a small bubble in paint on rear driver fender, paint scrape on front edge of hood, where someone adjusting the hood allowed the hood to fall (not a big deal as it is difficult to see) , a/c blows cool not ice cold, small dark mark on driver seat, small scrape in backseat leather from PO's dog (can be oiled out), and usual dash veneer wear.

Goodies:
Over the past few years i have been collecting goodies to perfect the car with. I plan on letting these go with the car:
  • Brand new re-veneered wood set for dash and doors. Satin French Walnut. The car really doesn't need this, it looks great as is. However if you want to perfect it, i have the re-veneered set.
  • Nardi wood steering wheel- brand new with rare large BMW button- really, really beautiful craftsmanship!
  • Manuals
  • '74 seatbelt hooks (these mount through the wood on the side to keep the belts within reach
  • Ultra-rare door chrome spears. The passenger door is currently missing this as you will see in the photos. So i have the piece- just put it on. These are now unobtainable anywhere.
  • Original sunroof wind deflector. This is a used piece that is original not a reproduction
  • Original electric mirror switch. This car was fitted with an electric mirror. Currently the mirror is manual, but if you want to add the switch, i have the switch and harness.
  • MPH speedo. Currently the speedo is in Km.
  • New door checks
I just tried to upload all of my photos and got cut off. I'll try to upload a separate listing to include those photos.

I would appreciate only hearing from serious buyers. I want it to go to a knowledgeable owner so I gave the Forum first shot. If it doesn't sell I'll put all the goodies on it and list it on BAT.

Thanks guys.

Beautiful!!

Interesting that about 30 years ago it had enough issues (rust I assume) to warrent a pretty extensive rebuild. It looks like someone took care of it after that :)

Hi Scott. I'd love to take an in-person look at your coupe this week. I Iive in the area (a few blocks away from La Jolla Independent, in fact) so let me know if we can arrange something. Thanks!

Java man, give me a call if you are interested. I’m happy to show you the car if you are seriously looking for a really good E9. I live in north county. 760.445.4320. Thx

Guys -- this car is officially off the market and has a new home in La Jolla. Looking forward to installing all of the terrific interior parts that the previous owner meticulously sourced. Will add a period correct Becker Europa radio linked to Bluetooth electronics and this amazing driver will be stunning. Glad to join this forum as a new E9 owner. -- Java Man
