Team, I’m looking to see what other have done to strengthen/stiffen their cars. I’m down to my bare bones and its time to make some crucial decisions. The obvious starting place is the strut mounts, including stress bars, and adding the differential reinforcement box. But I desire much more than that. I plan to do some strengthening through the rocker panels, in the trunk (I like what gazzol did) and had some other ideas. I’m new to stitch welding and not sure where the weak points are on this car. I hear someone created a map of places to reinforce but I can’t find it in my searches. It would be great to have something in the FAQ section (maybe I missed it).

I went to see a local car being fabricated; the underside looks like a race car and the owners’ pockets are much deeper than mine; that said, it was very cool. In short, I’d like to make it as stiff as possible without a roll cage or major re-engineering. Note: I do plan to up my power a bit. (External & intrior will remain 100% stock).

Also, I see where a few folks are strengthening joist/lift holds. Thoughts?

I’d like to do all the welding I need in one shot, so planning on adding the cantor, toe in, camber adjustments in the rear. Is their anything else I’m missing? I get the engine bay may need some mods too.

Open to advice, recommendations and constructive feedback (constructive!).

Lastly, a name is starting to form as I've had 'visions' for this car: Sundance. In Native speak a Sundance is part of the rights of passage (sweat lodge, vison quest, sundance). A Sundance may have you hanging by your nipples, and it sure feels that way sometimes; its a long grueling process, and I relate to that too. There is also a sense of enlightenment from challenging myself beyond my current abilities and that allows me the opportunity to push through my fears and self-limiting mental constructs. I also like Sundance because a silver car seems to shine and dance light under the rays of the sun. Then there is Butch Cassidy, this car will have a little rebel inside (Movie quote: "Can I move?"). I could see Redford in this car. I hope to see me in it some day! I'll have a naming ceremony when the frame is completed and the panels are fitted :)

I can only imagine how much of an improvement your efforts will yield. I have had my 73 coupe for 42 years and love the aesthetics and styling. I would think gaining a more rigid structure will be like building a house on rock instead of sand. I have two Z4 coupes which are extremely stout structures. Ignorance was bliss, unfortunately.

Please keep me posted on what your research and modifications yield. A few thousand dollars at this point may be the best money you will spend!
