Fritz Bit exhaust: misc comments

I purchased this 60mm hanger from stoddard Porsche parts.

Perfect fit and zinc plated.

I may drop the system to fix the rear pipe and install my NIB Stalh headers. It would be nice to get rid of the in-op EGR crap and restrictive emissions manifolds
@JFENG , Did you install the Stahl headers yet? I am planning to buy the system and would like to know if the base system (without downpipes) lines up with (or close) to enable installing the Stahl headers without much modification.

Thanks.

I got lazy and did not install the headers yet. However, I’ve done Stahl headers in my other old BMW’s (E3 and several 02’s) 3 or 4 decades ago and in every case they mated perfectly with the OEM center section. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I’ll be doing the Stahl to W&N center piece test fit (same as Fritz I think) in a couple weeks and will report back. Once fit is confirmed then off to the ceramic coater goes the Stahl.

I have the ceramic-coated Stahl headers on my engine. The Stainless Coupe King exhaust system had to be cut and welded to fit a few years ago by a professional exhaust shop. All came out well and the CK tailpipe has a rolled end that looks like the OEM tip. I think it looks better than the cut sharp tailpipe I see on the W&N and Fritz systems. The hangers were all made by the shop. The tailpipe is centered in the rear cutout and sounds great. The shop polished the tip after these pic were taken.

I ended up purchasing from W&N, they were "on sale" this week and I had a few other bits and bobs that I "needed" so it made sense to grab it from them. This will be a spring project as I tackle the 5 speed swap and other work at the same time.

remember, the new bmw exhaust hangers are shite and need to be reinforced. I put a small metal backing on the inside of the loop on each side, with each held together by a small bolt and locknut. Otherwise they will fail sooner rather than later.
After having two factory hangers fail after very few miles, I went full cave man and just used a section of the black material from one of these universal $5 hangers:

I've used those and had them fail also! I don't know why but my rear exhaust seems to eat hangers for lunch. I've modified/reinforced the stock ones so hopefully they will last. Of course I pack a spare and some wire...
