Front bumper brackets?

Were the front brackets on a 73 further out than earlier models? I am tucking in the rear bumper from the US spec to euro, and wanted to check on the distance of the front. Either way, I misplaced my brackets during my never ending restoration and I am now in need of two (right and left).

If anyone has a pair/set, please PM me? I am fitting up an air dam this weekend and want to do it with the bumper brackets in place.

Thank you in advance. If no bites, I will call LaJolla but wanted to check the board first.

Be well.

Brackets

The 1973 Brackets are different than any other 3.0 So be careful when purchasing

The 73 US bumpers were indeed mounted out further out both front and rear, probably by an inch or two. The 73 US mounting brackets are also different than the standard versions. Other than this lone one year oddity, all the brackets were the same, there were no Euro specific brackets. The mounting brackets are still supposedly available and are relatively cheap at $50 each. The brackets come painted black, but they rust pretty easily so I suggest you have them powder coated.

Due to the fact the 73 bumpers were extended out, the fenders' mounting holes were also pushed forward so by moving your front bumper inwards, you'll need to drill two new mounting holes and weld up your old holes. You'll also need to discard the two black plastic spacers that are attached between the bumper and the fenders and replace them with a pair of rubber strips which are still available.

Here are all the bumper parts involved. All the different parts are clearly evident. Good luck with your conversion.

Did you also wanted to move the front bumper inwards like your rear bumper? I'd automatically assumed that you also wanted to tuck in the front bumper. The 73 brackets are NLA according to Bmw Mobile Tradition.

Thanks for the prompt feedback. I ended up getting a pair of early (pre 73) from LaJolla. Some have asked questions about what I plan on doing for the rear.

I had a nice exchange with a board member about the fabrication done to the US spec rear bumper to bring them in without buying a new bumper or brackets. In short, we cut and welded the oval, utilizing the same holes for the bolts. The sides were welded and new holes will be drilled for installation.

Can someone please share the stock distance from the car to the rear bumper? Its been a while since I've seen an older coupe. Thank you.
