front ground strap

Today I located a ground strap bolted to the front sidewall behind the coil, about 12 in. long and 1/2 the width of the battery ground strap. (enclosed in black rubber casing).
(Praying that this is related to my ignition issues)

The other end obviously terminates to a location somewhere in the engine bay area.
But not exactly sure where.

A quick search turned up little results.

Does anyone have a picture?

(My car is a 73 with Weber carbs and Pertronix, if that makes a difference)

TIA

The shop manual depicts at least two different grounding strap configurations from or near the coil. I believe the strap has more to do with radio reception than your ignition.

There are two primary ground points on all models: (1) The connection from the battery to the fender and (2) the braided strap from engine/bell housing to firewall on Injected model (see arrow photo). But there are other common ground points, including (3) the ground that is the subject of your inquiry as well as (4) a ground strap between the hood and the front clip.

With all of these ground straps, the E9 and E3 may have had/has some "conductivity issues." Then there is the problem of tire induced static. Note the spring loaded hubs. Makes one wonder whether each car shouldn't have been equipped with anti-static grounding straps that contacted the road.

The ground strap from hood to panel between nose and radiator was apparently only on 2800CS or maybe early 3.0CS. Murray has the only one I have ever seen and there is no hole on the panel on my `73. It is the narrow braided variety with no rubber cover.

I believe the hood strap came with the radio interference suppression kit. It´s often lost these days but is helpfull in grounding the hood properly and thereby improving the radio reception

Mine's grounded between the hood and one of the passenger side headlight access cover bolt holes. Braided wire like in the pic.

Steve,

Must have been dealer added when radio was installed, Murray has a dedicated hole for his cable. Anyone else have this ground with a photo?
