I replaced the front turn signal on my Bavaria, now the front headlights are out. Turn signal/corner lights all work, brights work but no low beams. Fuses all ok. I briefly checked the ground and that's fine. Thoughts????

There is no correlation between those two. What else did you do to the car? When was the last time they worked? Are the bulbs/sealed beam blown...?Earlier cars have no low beam relay, my '76 has one. Pull out and re-install the relay, if it has one. The other common points where L and R low beam come together are the high beam stalk switch and the light switch. You may have to do what Chris suggests and start at the plug and trace your voltage going all the way back to the light switch. It's very peculiar they are both out.

Checked and no power. Is there a relay for these and if so, where is it? Everything in the car is original. Tx

Bob,

We don't know what year you have. On coupes no low beam relay through 73. Relays are next to battery (horn, hi beam, fog if fitted).

1972. Three relays near the battery. Everything else works, high beam stalk, corner lights, rear lights, only the front 2 lights. Are these relays still available or can I use more current ones? RealOem doesn't specify which is which and doesn't list 2 of the three at all.

Forget what I said, didn't see the tail end of your post.

Are any of these cars the same? My antenna is on the pillar, my mirror is the older style (simple chrome), I have that third relay.

I followed the wiring and I see nothing between the fuse box and the headlights. Perhaps both filaments are out which would be a wild coincidence but.... I'll figure it out. One reason we own these things is for the challenge.

The newer relays are square, round ones only available used. sfdon says Double02 Salvage in Hayward has them. Terminals are numbered 30, 85, 86, 87.

Yellow wire is low beam, white is high beam. Both come from the hi/lo switch to front of car. White attaches to hi beam relay, yellow goes straight to low beam lights, no relay. Maybe a relay was added, very easy to tell from the wire color above. Also, pull the hi/lo switch, you can hear the relays click when triggered. Third relay could be for fog light if you have them.

Third relay may not be a relay. It is rectangular in shape, looks like a voltage regulator from the top. I think I recall having a filament in the low beams lit when I put the highs on, coud just have been a reflection. If so, then lights are just shot.

Unfortunately I had to put the Bav in storage today to free a garage space for our X3 we leave in the driveway. We have a bunch of POS for kids in my fancy neighborhood who trash mirrors for fun. X3 lost both the other night, so now garaged till these kids get caught. Hence, cannot currently investigate this issue more right now.

The voltage regulator mounts in the same area as the relays, and is rectangular when viewed from above. The v.r. is much larger than the light & horn relays - how big is the device in question?

My setup is the same as that shown with part in question being 6oclock in the photo.

Got it. Many thanks to all. When I tackle the problem, I will give follow-up. One man's E3 issue is another man's E3 insight.
