Front power window grommet

Happy 2016 All!

Wondering if anyone knows the dimensions of the front power window grommet (the grommet that attaches to the body that the cable runs through)? Seems the ones I ordered a while back are not the correct size and fall out of the body when the door is opened / closed and the cable moves.

Okay let's put the '73 cadaver to work...

A bit oblong, 26mm to 28mm:

The diameter of the stopper that holds the grommet in place, 23mm:

Diameter of the channel between the grommet face and stopper, 16mm:

10mm thick. Mine was a bit torn up on the fender side so I took the thickest measurement:

Harness Diameter, 10mm:

Fender opening diameter, 20mm:

I have found a number of these grommets on McMaster-Carr.
I currently don't have that one..... yet.
Also found one for the big AC line at a good autoparts store in a display that has many generic parts.

The HOLE in the fender is 20mm, but the "channel" diameter is 16mm?

Yeah I wondered the same thing. The plunger is bigger than 20mm so it fits. The face of the grommet is 7mm bigger than the opening so you can't see the loose fit. Also, the channel is pretty narrow so the fit is snug.

It's a bit beat up, but there is an original harness connector on both ends so I assume the grommet is original. The grommet can't be removed.

Hello all,

my E9 came with manual windows and I mounted the power windows.

I have the same problem with this grommet (moving when door is opened)

I think this grommet is only for closing the hole in the A pillar.

I think grommet "14" 16124780109 in the attached drawing is the correct one.

I ordered this grommet last week at the local BMW dealer.

Will post fotos when it arrived here.

Does the PW grommit seem big enough on the inside diameter to house both the power mirror and power window harnesses?

Simon showed me this (I think it's on his E3), but I dunno; seems pretty dang tight to fit TWO harnesses in there. Wondering if E3 and E9 grommets are diff.

Or different years.

Looks like the grommet I have is big enough to house two sets of wires.
