A 51 mm diameter strut (OD of shock casing) would not fit. I took some measurement of my front strut and old collar nut - easy since they are off the car.
Outside of strut housing is 53.3 mm dia.
Collar nut without threads is 48 mm (so the inside of the strut tube should be a bit wider).
Collar nut with threads is 49.6 mm dia.
Super thanks for the measurements! Doing air suspension on my e3. Rest is finished. Had to use the car a couple of days so not started on the front. Got a 50mm strut with airbag on. Didnt know If that woid fit inside the stock strut.

rear view with no air in bags. shock lenght is the first thing that stops the car height. no chance of driving with this height. just for parking.. can raise it about 4" then i got a nice ride height with no problem.
the front is next step. will start on that this week i hope.
at max front height, i got almost stock height
rear it is alitle lower than stock at max height.
but it draws attention... no god driving this low. just for show
and i my litle dog in the back seat .... just drove 500m to get the picture so the dog joined.. not safe driving with this big dog in a litle car with no dog cage..
