Our coupe prices are all over the planet. But no matter the condition or price I have not seen a single one with the front splash guard, except the one BMW did for a guy a while back and converted it to automatic.

They are available from BMW and mine came with the original clips/screws. I remember paying about $125. about a year ago. It could have been $225. the money came from the sale of our '75 CSi Barn Find parts and I was spending freely.

It gives the front end a cleaner, more streamlined look, when you can see it.

There is an original owner in the bay area who comes to the summer concours in Carmel every year and he has the original piece! Yes, they were around $225, great for hiding that front suspension that isn't as clean as we might like as well.

I went to my local BMW dealer and looked it up with a cooperative parts guy. Even got at 10% BMWCCA discount. The Bay Area guy must have one of five "originals." They are fairly flimsy when new and I suppose most got discarded or cracked early on.

The only photo I know is the one of the factory restored coupe that was all the rage about six months? ago.

skid hahaha plate

Korman added one (that I didn't ask for and didn't at the time know that such a part existed, when we went baremetal and painted...) When I blew an upper radiator hose last year, guess where the anti-freeze went? I cant believe that anyone still has their original...well, anyone that lives where it rained in the last 30 years.

My car had that piece on it when I bought it this past July. It was made of fiberboard style material similar to the under dash covers. It had become pretty deformed, so it was removed.

me too

My ceylon had it when it was delivered w 19K miles. I took it off and am storing it...put on another new one.

If it is the three cardboard pieces under the engine I think W&N had them for like €150, maybe even at BMW.

I am planning to have three aluminium sheets made instead and put a bunch of sound deading material on them to keep engine clean and noise down. It seems my car had them once as the fasterners were still there.

Need to keep the noise down as I plan on replacing headers and exhaust and Swiss rules are real strict on noise levels.

I have a friend who works with fibreglass, maybe have him make 100 sets :)

Edit : looked a bit a more and found this picture here : http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1112&d=1273184852 and it is one piece there. But am pretty sure I saw one in three pieces?

Underbody pan--was pressed paper--

and was a single piece original part and fitment to all E-9's. Most were discarded folowing the 3rd or 4th service performed by mechanics as they became a nuisance to R 'n R especially when cooling system problems arose--which became very common to both E-9 and E-3's here in warm climates due largely to the poorly designed fan clutch and marginal original radiators limited heat transfer capability.

John A--the part you have laid out on you hood appears to be the correct part being discussed, a single large piece of pressed and coated paper with openings for the oil pan and smaller openings for the suspension tow hooks.

Your reference to 3 pieces would seem to me that you may be confusing underhood pads in the conversation as they are a 3 piece part set made of gray foam--and include a large single piece for the underside center and flanked on either side by the small pieces.

This one looks a lot better than original!! I don't think your new (+100k) BMW got that nice belly pan!!

Original E9 is easily deformed and therefor not so common.

I've my original (almost like new) as a trophy on my garage wall together with other silly original E9 item :-)

Cheers!

Since allen has one, would it be possible to get a paper pattern made, then have that used to cut one from sheet aluminum? Certainly be MUCH more durable than the description of the OE product. The OE Porsche 928 belly had two sections, and one section was of similar composition to that described in this and the other thread. About 10 years ago, two different indy suppliers to that community developed an aluminum substitute, and they've sold pretty well over these 10 years. Both were in California, one in Anaheim and one in the Bay area.
