I recently dissected the sub frame (front end) of my 3.0 and ordered all new parts. The original sub frame was damaged so I was fortunate enough to get a replacement (thanks Erik)! There are 2 pieces of steel bolted to the side(s) of the motor mount riser(s) on my original and they are not on the replacement piece. What is the purpose of these bits of steel? AND, what is the easiest way to insert the strut rod bushings?

Thanks!

You can pull the large rubber bushing into place using a large bolt, washers and nuts with a good lubricant like dish soap. Once in place, install torsion strut into control arm and then strut into bushing, attaching control arm to subframe last using a small jack. This worked for me on my 2002, same basic layout as the coupe.

Still a bit of a pain getting the bushing and rod in and then aligning the control arm bolt and sleeve but doable by most.

Front spring replacement

When replacing the front springs and shocks is it typical to replace the boots that cover the shocks inside the coils? Just when I thought I had all the parts together I went to a friends shop to use a wall mounted spring compressor. He asked me if I had new "booties" for the shocks. I had not thought of that and he also asked if there were rubber "stops" to prevent the shocks from bottoming out.... Anyone?

Thanks
