This cover plate was screwed against the A post to keep the dirt from getting between the A post and the inside of the fender. I don't seem to be able to find it in the parts catalogue.
Is it an original BMW or an after-market part ?
Thanks.

It is there from the factory. Doesn't seem to do a very good job of keeping the debris out though. The bottoms of mine were gone. Some owners remove them but I think every little bit helps in that area. See 41/8, covering plate, 51711813031 $81.52 on RealOEM. On second thought, that may not be it.

Thanks Chris. Actually it is PN 51-71-1-836-665/666 (L/R), They are NLA so I'll fabricated them from aluminum and paint them body color. Don't want to leave them off because the pockets behind are too deep. Also the attachement holes are there and by leaving them off without closing those holes water and dirt will go straight into the A pillars and from there into the inner rockers. Of course Volvo or Lokari fenders would be an option but I dont want to go that route. Car is too original for that.

If it's not a pain in the a$$ you may want to consider making a few while you're at it for sale here, I am sure you'd have some customers!

yes, i bought one for a friend in w&n, it was expensive, 90euro + 15 euro the rubber closing profile

in my opinion is not worth the price for being original in this case, it is a simple shape you can make in aluminium, it has a small lateral bent that can be avoided installing a different rubber profile or even sealing with PU mastik
