I have for sale an interesting piece of history.
Price 200 euro's. Edit- lowered to 150 euros.

It is a Blue binder that contains workshop instructions send out by BMW HQ to their dealers. It is in German language and covers a time period of roughly '68 to July '72. there are about 200 different instructions in the binder; 30 alone are engine related.
the instructions in number seem to reflect the sales figures at that time. About 50 % of the instructions cover the E10 models, 30% cover E3, and the rest covers the 28000CS (also USA versions!), but also the 1600 TI / GT, 1800 TISA and 2000 TILUX and 2002 Tii are targeted by the instructions.
Most instructions cover multiple car models, as the instructions are quite generic in some cases.

The instructions are organized by vehicle sub group, and of various nature.
Let me share some examples, taken with an e9/e3 interest:
30 December 1969: topic: From chassisnr 2220851 onward, an additional marking has been placed on the flywheel mass; TDC and ignition time zero point definition on 6 cyl automatic models.
long mark = ignition time zero point.
short mark = OT (=TDC)

Other e9/e3 interesting, (sometimes funny) instructions:
- Warnings for screws that turn loose on e9's carbs, instructing dealer to check for tightness and instructions what to check & reinstall if found defective.
- the oil spreader bar appearently had been installed from factory in a 180 degree incorrect manner leading to excessive wear on cam shaft. Interestingly, they note themselves that this is from factory!
- Another interesting one is this: 3 Feb 1970: For all US models the ignition lock is changed, so that only in the "HALT" position the key can be removed.
- 19 july 1968: 2800CS: The pressurized power steering oil hose can rub on the frame rails, thereby creating a leak. reinstall hose so that the hose bends away from the frame rails.
- 11 nov 1969: the LSD diffs from chassisnr 2420 243 (= 2800 US, but also other 2800 and CS versions) were equipped with a Molybdene coating on the lammelen, which ensures that less noise is being generated. as a result now also standard oils can be used. (list povided in doc)
- 18 feb 1970: from chassisnr 2443027 (2800A) the handbrake has been changed in a version with finer teeth, allowing for easier handbrake engagement.
- funny one: when installing the tie down hooks under the car, make sure they are not bent towards the wheels, as snow chains may catch them (imagine how they found that out!) Interestingly, it also describes these hooks as being there purely for tie-down purposes during train, ship and truck loading securing.
- another funny one: Aug 1969: hazard light switch; due to heat load from the sun, the plastic internal mechanism of the hazard switch may deform, leading to a switch that operates the warning lights continuously (image that happening to you!). Solution is to use the improved version only, which is identified with a green paint mark next to the outer mounting threads. the new switch is installed from 2800CS chassis# 2201426 onwards.
- from 2800 CS-Automatic, serial# 2 200 084 the flywheel and starter gear have teeth cut under an angle, as previously the teeth were straight

All in all this is an interesting look into the structure how BMW managed their quality at that time.

some pics below; Do tell me if my price is off.

Very interesting.

Probably each of these cases could be another topic for the Forum. Maybe an idea?

Have you been considering to scan 2000c/cs and E9 for future E9 Forum Member use?

I'm far for bringing you more work ... If I would be better in German I could support You freely and still can offer my help but only during winter time (spring is coming).

Might be just scanning for the first would be a good starting point for potential future. ;) ... it can be done by some other person in your local area, shop or anyone else (including me ;-) ).

Moden office machines can scan all in few minuted into PDF or other format to secure & spread this rare knowledge.

Just my two cents ... nothing more
