As I told Stan, I don't know what is "correct" for these emblems. The ones I have that came on my car are smooth, and the lettering and linework appears to be a dull goldish color. See photo below.

What I like about Stan's is that they resemble a proper hood or trunk emblem. Which is to say the letting and linework is raised such that it has dimension. I don't know if they are more correct, but to my eye they look more authentic (even if they aren't). Anyway, like most other parts for the car I will now have a spare pair. :D

Maybe it was Markos who speculated when these changed.
Ah, so there was a change? I am learning so much about C-pillar emblems this evening! I would be keen on learning when the emblems changed from the style Stan offered to the style that were on my car (and yours).

This is the thread from 2017.

There are two part numbers with 828 851 superceding 500 144. But since BMW only sells the non raised ones perhaps raised letters were earlier? I’ve never seen them on a coupe, the current ones were purple and not blue. Can’t find a date in RealOEM which I don’t trust anyway. Just another mystery.

Maybe it was Markos who speculated when these changed.

My “speculation” (much prefer hypothesis) was that they came on 1974+ models, as seen on the 1975 model currently listed on BaT. Perhaps @brainguts can confirm what is on his highly original 1974. The vast majority of ‘74’s seem to have original enamel roundels, so if I had to speculate ;), I would say it is a 1975 update.

What I can say with confidence is that a painted aluminum roundel is cheaper to manufacture than enamel. Just like plastic kidneys, black wipers, black plastic vents, aluminum license plate trim, and aluminum c-pillar bases. So if you are trying to determine when a part showed up, cost is a consideration.

On my 75 Euro I now have the raised letter c pillar emblem NOS with the help of @Keshav and his part connections. They reviewed the usage was just as @Marko speculates. Now matches my front emblem, leaves me wondering if my rear emblem should match.

I have one of those in enamel. The enamel is not cracked although it is blemished. This is leftover 2000CS stock I believe. Closoinne? One of the posts is slightly bent.

Also have a raised edge hood emblem 000 958 08 103 is on the obverse.

And a brand new 2800CS glove box manual, no crease marks on cover or spine
