This is one of the cleanest Bavaria’s that I have seen come up for sale in a long time. This is about as turn-key as you will get. Not only is it practically rust free (and this claim isn’t taken lightly), it is almost all original but there is also a lot of posterity associated with the car. I am representing the car for the owner. He is a well known classic BMW collector that prefers to not be named and he is the 3rd owner of this special Bavaria.

The 2nd owner was John Barlow; some of you may know him as the Co-Organizer of the prestigious SoCal Vintage BMW show in Southern California. Bavaria’s are a big passion of his and he has a very discerning eye for them. John purchased this car from the original owner who had it stored in their garage after the motor overheated. The car sat for 25 years before John got a hold of it. He tried to rebuild the original motor to no avail but was able to find another 3.0 motor as a replacement. Because the car was in such great condition, John decided to replace the motor with a good low miles used motor that has around 20K miles on it. It was rebuilt in San Diego by a known engine builder. The car does not smoke, is reliable, and runs very strong with proper Weber conversion using stock air filter box. The Bavaria was lowered a bit with lowering springs and has good Bilstein shocks.

Other than a tiny crack in the dash near the driver front vent, the interior is in amazing shape. Judging by the interior and the rest of the car, we think the car has fewer than 100K miles on it and may even have 56K miles on the car as the odometer states. Even the original front break in glass windshield sticker is still intact and very legible. Body wise it is as straight as an arrow and the belt trim is a testament to the condition it is in, still looking brand new. The belt trim was not replaced by NOS trim, but is still the original trim which is in great shape. The rear driver’s side quarter panel was dinged and repaired a while back and that is the only area of repaint in the trunk, the rest of the trunk looks like original paint. A lot of the original paint can be seen in the door jams, motor compartment, etc. It had a good quality re-spray at some point and has some paint chips typical for a 44 year old driver quality car. It comes with upgraded Mahle 6.5x14 BBS BMW wheels (the sought after deeper dish type, not the more rounded ones) which accent the Sahara paint very well. The felt trim along the windows and door seals are in amazing shape. Car has A/C but will need a charge, all the equipment is intact.

With the upgraded Weber carburetors’ the car runs and drives very well. There are over 180 pictures on the Shutterfly site to attest to this amazing car. This is truly a time capsule BMW Bavaria. You may be able to find less expensive Bavaria’s, but take it from me, these cars cost as much, if not more sometimes to restore than the coupes when you buy them cheap, even rust free examples like mine was not cheap to restore and I’m still not close to being done and I have over double the asking price of this car into mine. To restore one of these back to stock, it is a very painstaking business finding the original parts and putting them back on as many of you know. It is way better to buy something that doesn’t have to be completely taken apart, just to get it back to stock. The car comes with the original BMW Owner’s Handbook, Antennae key; Radio Owners Manuel, extra key, and Original Service Booklet (see pictures).

I actually used this car as my model for what a stock BMW Bavaria is supposed to look like. Many or most of the parts on this car have never been off or replaced; they are MOSTLY all original! With the exceptions that have been mentioned (Wheels, motor, carburetors’, lowering springs, shocks, etc.). It also comes with a brand new factory exhaust. It does not come with original toolbox or tools unfortunately. However the e9coupe board is a great source for these and can still be found through the help of the members of this site. So, we are offering this car to the e9coupe.com members first as a courtesy before it goes on Hagerty, Craigslist, Bring-A-Trailer, or eBay.

I am available for questions or if you need more pictures or to set up a time to test drive and view the car please let me know. Our wish is that this car ends up in an e9/e3/2002/ basically vintage BMW enthusiast’s garage. Feel free to call my personal cell at 949-632-9098 to set up an appointment. Car is being offered at $14,000.00 to e9coupe.com members for a few days, probably until Friday 02/05/2016 after which the price may go up. So, if you are looking for a mostly original, rust free, turnkey e3 now is the time to pull the trigger. These cars are going up in price very quickly. According to NADA price guide, high retail on these is now $26,200.00!

The owner is a good friend of mine and I know this Bavaria well. Shane has accurately described it's condition, it is in amazing shape, the headliner looks brand new and the seats and carpets are in great shape as well, even the dash and console look very, very good. Inside its similar to our barn find 2800, right down to the door seals, window felts and windlace, they look brand new.

Mid-Week bump

So, giving this gem of an e3 a little mid-week bump. It is only posted here on e9coupe.com at the moment. Anyone have any friends that want to get our sickness for older BMW's, this is the car. Good entry point price wise compared to an e9, none of the rust issues you would face at double the price for an entry level e9. They won't have to do anything to it if they don't want, drive it "As Is" or you/they can lightly customize to taste. Anyhow, call me if you would like to see it. It's going to hit the other websites for sale Friday, or possibly earlier if we don't get much interest on the board.
