$4500 OBO. This 265/5 CR is currently installed in my low mileage E23 ’81 733i Turbo. It’s perfect, no crunching, no whine, no leaks, smooth shifting. I’m selling because I believe the tranny is worth much more to someone else than it is to me. I prefer an OD 5spd for this car, and I have one that I will install after I sell the CR. As you all know, this tranny is much more suited for a narrower powerband of an M88 or S38, not for the torquey 3.2L Turbo in a 4 dr. 7-series.
The backstory: I purchased the car a couple of years ago from my neighbor. He sold it on BAT, but the sale fell through. Apparently the bidder was a flake, his history on BAT was for exactly one day, when he bid on several cars, and never to be seen again. FYI, here’s the link to the BAT auction if you’re interested:
The donor car is a low-mileage E23. I don’t have evidence, but the story is that the original owner was the General Manager of Pacific BMW in Glendale, where the work was done to retrofit the car to the M102 M30 and the Getrag CR. There is no serial number on the engine, so I’m guessing that it was a factory rebuild. I am also guessing that the tranny is also a factory rebuild.
It’s a long story on getting the car running, it had a cracked head. I removed the trans at the time I replaced the head, that’s when the pics were taken. The tranny is currently installed in the E23, so you can drive it yourself, or send an agent. I really encourage this, because it is truly a perfect tranny.
I’m asking $4500 because I believe it’s an exceptional tranny, but show me how I’m unreasonable and we’ll make a deal. I’m only seeking fair market value. Heck, if you’re in SoCal, I’ll even give you a hand installing it!
