FS: Petri sport 38cm foam/rubber steering wheel

Up for sale is an extremely nice foam/rubber wheel.

Would rate it a conservative 7.5/10. Almost perfect satin silver nickel finish. The foam/rubber grip is firm, soft and supple. The imitation imprinted leather grain is somewhat worn, particularly from 9 to 3 0’clock position.

The excellent condition alloy hub is the correct e9 unit with an aftermarket horn contact ring that was bought a few years ago from a fellow Euro forum member. The black plastic hub should is also in great condition with no cracks or missing chunks. The factory Petri horn button is in excellent condition also. The 6 hole black horn button trim ring is in very good shape. The original black finish on the ring has been touched up at few spots that chipped.

Initially, I had entertained the idea of having this Petri recovered in new leather($550 @ Craft Customs) and charge the extra premium accordingly. But, I’ll let the potential buyer decide whether to use the present wheel as is or go the leather route

Some more photos and additional info. As stated, the foam/rubber grip imitation leather grain structure from 9 to 3 position has worn away somewhat. Still, the grip is in excellent shape, the feel and looks are kind of like the modern smooth grain BMW leather steering wheels.

The satin nickel plated spokes are in great condition, looking almost new albeit, there is one area on the left spoke showing some minute light scratches. One of the left spoke pics will reveal this slight flaw. This Petri has a center ring that is spot welded to the 3 spoke. The plastic hub cover securely snaps onto this flat ring. Some Petri’s came with this feature and others did not. Don’t know why this is, maybe late versus early Petri wheels.

I disassembled all the individual hub parts for picture taking. During reassembly, one of the 8 ears of the horn contact ring snapped off (at bottom of ring). As stated, this is a new non-original contact ring that I presume was 3D printed, thus, the plastic is rather fragile and is not as robust as the original. The ears are just decorative elements and does not affect the functions of the horn contact ring.
