I had planned to build a 700 hp turbo'd s38 motor, but those plans got scrapped. It was originally built at Kachel Motor Co in Massachusetts. http://www.kmcauto.com/about_us.html

30,000 miles since Kachel Motor Co did a full high performance rebuild
Some quick specs:
*1988 m5 block, 1991 b36 head with light porting
*JE custom forged pistons - high compression
*Hi performance beehive valve springs

As it goes, I thought I would put in some 8 to 1 pistons and turbo it, so
I contacted my local BMW dealer (Peter Pan BMW, and asked them who they recommended for engine builds, and so it ended up at Clarkes Machine Shop in Burlingame. Once the engine was fully disassembled, I realized I was not going to build a turbo s38. So back together it went, with new gaskets throughout, new upper and lower timing chain guides, new crankshaft sprocket, oil pump chain, head job - valve stem seals, etc.

Tim Kachel spent over $12k building this motor. It has 273rwhp, about 340hp at the crank. It is as powerful as the last s38 engine made in 1993 in Germany, the s38b38 I have the dyno to prove it. Looking for $7,250. Motor comes with accessories, and ECU. I can ship at buyers expense.

I saw this monster on the dyno 2 years ago. Impressive motor. #'s on a leak down on a build with forged pistons if the motor is cold as the picture shows a long block will be different than a warm motor. Perhaps Charofire has compression numbers or leak down prior to break down.

I am doing a leak down (albeit cold) for Charofire's engine tomorrow. Pm me if interested in the #'s. I did his compression test before he pulled the motor apart a year ago, but he needs to find them :).
