Hi E9ers,
I am looking for some help on installing new fuel lines for my 3.0 CSI.

Fuel Line Type:
There does seem to be a varying degree of opinions, ie: copper, original
but the general census seems to point to the use of Cupro Nickel as the fuel line.

Fuel line route:
My other issue is the path that the fuel lines run under the car.
I am replacing the old Fuel line with a new one ( Please don't ask where the old one is.....long long story )
I can see pipe hooks that run along the left hand side, under the sills, but it looks like there is only provision for a single line.
But what about the return. I have looked at various under carriages, but I cannot see the details in any of the pictures.

Any help with pictures, links etc would be really appreciated.

PS: I have a RHD E9 so it may be different to the LHD E9s, but that may still be useful.

Thanks

Hi Eric, I have a 73 3.0 CSI UK build, and I can see on a diagram that there is a return.
CSI's and CSL's models require a fuel return.

Thanks

i would use the pipe available from bmw. Already has correct shape and is so darn cheap. (About $ 35.00)

The metal tabs are wide enough to fit both lines. Use some fuel line to protect them from rubbing against each other and be careful not to break the tabs.

Or come and look at mine, it’s just up the road, well Essex.
I did what OCCoupe suggested and used rubber pipe to protect the fuel and brake pipes where they are clamped. The suction pipe into the fuel tank is important to stop the pump sucking air.

I am resurrecting this thread as I need to obtain and install a fuel line as part of my winter projects. The original line was gone when I acquired the car, and a rubber line is presently running up the drive shaft tunnel.

I attempted to order a new one, but have been told that the original BMW line is no longer available.

Do we now make our own? Is there a source for clips or were those made a part of the body or floor? Any pictures of the routing would be very helpful.

If you look up a 74 e9 BMW may still have the return line, it can easily be modified for use. It exits the forward side of spare tire well, goes to the driver rocker, clips under the rocker with tabs, turns 90 degrees at rear of front wheel well, turns 90 degrees and goes up frame rail to just inside the inner fender, fuel hose after that.
