Fuel Pump Shaft

Hi all, I am changing back from an electric fuel pump to the original mechanical pump, (mounted on the head). I have misplaced the drive-rod, and will fabricate another. Can anyone tell me the length, ( in mm please) of the small shaft the goes between the cam and the pump? Thanks, Bob Lesher 71' 2800CS

I'm sorry, 107mm is about an inch too long. Can someone that knows what they are talking about, please help with this, (length of Fuel pump shaft)? Bob

Yeah, but it's the holidays.

The info was from the repair book, the BMW manual. There's a link above to the registry where the book can be found.

The insulator is 20mm or otherwise may make up the difference referred to. Make sure you have the gaskets on either side which are just paper.

Now, there are lots of pierburg types for other cars. For example. an 02 has at least two, one of which does have a shorter rod. So it's entirely possible to have a pump which looks the same but is not for an E9.

Perhaps someone else more familiar with the 02 difference can chime in.

The early pumps have an actuating lever, newer pumps have a large spring in the center which requires a shorter rod. At least that is the case with the 2002. Does your pump have 8mm inlets and outlets? The 02 uses 6mm and 8mm. The shorter rod is available for the 2002.

Happy Holidays!

I found one on my work bench - 107 mm. It came out of a mid 1972 3.0 CS.
