What does "Mid mounted 306" mean? I get that a "306" is some sort of a 306 cubic inch V8, but where is it mounted? In the 5th photo, the steering wheel seems to be some distance behind windshield, so I guess the firewall been cut out and the engine (and dash and seats) moved rearward.

Yes, those rear wheel boxes are pretty bizarre. It's a shame that an early 2002 had to die to build this thing. It says something that once the builder finished it, he was not only ready to unload it, but willing to accept what is probably a small fraction of the build cost.
