Gas tank refurbishing. Has anyone used Tank Renu?

Judging from the fuel sender I recently replaced (rusted pretty badly), I must have a pretty rusty tank. The car sat for 8 or 10 years, unfortunately. I'm not getting good fuel to the car despite changing the filter a couple of times, so I think the tank needs to be replaced or repaired. The guys at Mesa Performance mentioned a system called Gas Tank Renu, but the SoCal franchise in Bellflower is no longer doing the process.

Has anyone used this system?

Does anyone have a better suggestion for tank refurbishment?

thank you very much.

POR-15 Fuel Gas Tank Sealer Repair Kit. About 90 bucks on amazon. Use it to clean and seal the tank. Most people stand by the POR 15 products. There are other similar products out there. One other thing, if the tank is bad, the flange holding it in place may also be bad. While you are at it, the fuel line if original, is braided and often is deteriorated and should be replaced. It becomes steel under the car then braided coated rubber again from the firewall to the fuel pump (assuming you have a mechanical pump).

Had similar problem awhile back, pulled the tank and had it 'boiled' for about 2 days and then they coated the inside. I believe this process can be done at most radiator shops as the shop I went to did primarily radiators and I saw a few fuel tanks in there also, as I recall I paid about $100.

I second the rad shop route. My guy used to build rads for the Flemington NJ Speedway.
You want someone with lots of experience. It was about $75. ten years ago.

Radiator shop it is/was. They did a surprisingly good job. Prices have risen substantially since the $75 back-in-the-day quote though. Still, it's one less thing that will need to be dealt with. it will probably outlive the car, and us.

I had my tank done at Gas Tank Renu in Toronto. Looks good inside. can't say it is better or worse than the other approaches.

I’ve got a good used tank that came out of a 73 Bavaria parts car you can have for $75 plus shipping. The tank must have been replaced because it had a BMW parts number sticker on it but then the car sat in a field for 2 winters so there’s defiantly rust on the outside of the tank. If you’re interested I will pull the sender and inspect the inside for rust. ~ John Buchtenkirch

Thanks for the offer, but as I mentioned above, the job was done by a radiator shop and is better than new.

I had my tank done by the local Gas Tank Renu vendor/contractor here in Houston. It was extremely well done but cost $500 which I thought was a bit much.

Next time I'll have a radiator shop do it.
