Yes very similar. The sound quality and camera angles of the reunion has me thinking it is more scripted than it appears. The style and music touches are in the same style as Depth of Speed. I love those. I think GM saw the Murray piece before the final edit too with the overhead tree shots and final line.
Showed it to my kids (who better remember rolling around in the Corrado), and the older one said 30 years is too long to bother finding an old VW ,then He went back to his Laptop game wrecking cars.
 
i have had a couple of cars that killed me when i sold them, and it was cool to see them again years later. my first (half decent) car was a 73 mgb gt. 20 years later a friend of my brothers traded for it.

last week i got an alert from ebay about a 2002 for sale, a lot of things looked familiar ... yep it was my old korman built 76 that i sold in 2001 when i bought my e30 m3.

as to the comparison with unscripted murray, i think that murray's was much better quality speaking about how it was done (filmic qualities, i mean), and the car was better too ! ;-)
but the story of this guy, his brother and his father, it is great to see the face of the father as he starts remembering...

yep, it killed me, i was in miami at meetings when it came up ... the car was an hour or so away in palm beach. i wanted to run over and see it, just the problem with the meeting that day - i couldn't make it. the other thing that was attractive was the coupe that showed up in a couple of the pics. if the motor was properly rebuilt - it was a steal, if it hadn't been ... i dunno. best driving 2002 i've ever been in.
