Hi guys,

I´m still trying to find the right, or easiest gearbox, the 265 one with the mechanical speedo drive.

I´ve been offered a 5 speed gearbox from a 735i, year unknown, the writing on the case says Getrag 262.0.0510.90, and as far as I´ve seen that means it´s a 5 speed (non dogleg) CR with the 265 casing... Re. the mechanical drive I do not know.

Do any of you guys have a quick answer for me? Then I´ll buy it immediately.

It seems to have the all important 3 piece casing, but I am not that mechanically minded, hence all the questions.

I have searched and sorry for bringing up an often discussed subject, but I could not find anything specific regarding my question, only a thread asking for a year identification for the same transmission, http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10945&highlight=Getrag+262.0.0510.90

So, if anyone would be so kind as to tell me if they see a 3 piece casing, a 265 gearbox and the all important mechanical speedo drive from my info above and the picture I would be very grateful indeed!

Best,

Gisli

hard to tell from the picture. on the bottom right of the transmission, near where the driveshaft attaches, there is an angled housing ... which is where the speedo cable goes in. the question is whether or not the hardware is in there.

I wouldn't worry too much about the speedo drive considering how hard it is to get a proper overdrive 265 (I just bought one from double 02 salvage http://www.002salvage.com/ )... the speedo gearing is available on german ebay... for 80-150 euros depending on which bits you want...)

Great stuff, thanks for the info.

So in effect, this would be the "right" transmission at least and should be more or less plug and play, and I´ll then see if all the speedo thingies are in place or not...

Any further wisdom?

Best,

Gisli

Yep, looks like the right thing. 3 piece housing, and there is no blocker plate over the speedo drive connection point. If you want to see what that looks like, find some E30 M3 transmission pictures, as that also uses the Getrag 265, but with the speedo drive covered.

Also, if you are using a 4 speed right now, you can swap over the speedo drive bits.

Thanks, I´ll go ahead and buy the thing then.

No, mine is an automatic currently. Will swap a m30b35 engine as well and do a bare metal restoration.
