82 was the first year of the E28 in the US and they carried the getrag 265 5 speed over from the 80-81 E12 528i. Car has 14" Mahle/BBS wheels as well which only came on the 82 E28 (and early 80's E24) n the US market . Since the 528e has a M20 motor, you have to use the bellhousing from a M30 motor, either a 4 or 5 speed, 5 speed is preferred.
The E28 took a big whack up front, hope the gearbox is not scrambled eggs from the impact.
May be worth checking out, make an offer, sounds like the seller wants the car out of his garage and gone.
