Getrag 265/6 on eBay

eBay has recently raised its fees to about 15%. The real bummer is that those fees are calculated on the total cost, including shipping, so the $350 shipping fee is part of that calculation and it adds to the sales tax which I find doubly painful.

Hard to believe the prices for the 265/6 these days. Glad I got mine 8 years ago.

Agree. It's hard to believe both...

Getrag 262 (also 4-speed) prices and how the eBay is more and more greedy over years.

Whoever buys this is in for a real disappointment. The center console is not E3 or E9, it might be an early 2002. There are many, many pieces missing to call this a 5 spd 'conversion' kit. Attached are all the parts one needs to truly install a 5 spd in an E9.

Interesting.

Was the kit from the picture discussed more on some of your threads?
I know there is some in technicalia section, but I'm curious in small, tiny parts. I might be also interesting for Other Members to have pictures of each part as sometimes you can buy them cheap from people who do not know what they are selling.

Would it be possible to extend manual conversion topic with list of pictures of also small parts in one list?

Sorry if I'm asking for too much. :)

There is another one on eBay that I am watching (not buying) and was sent an offer of $400 off. It does have a broken shift platform mount.

It might be worth inquiring if the ebay seller has that broken portion of the mount. There is still room to tap that part deeper and, perhaps because it doesent carry a substantial load I would think it would be okay if you bolted it up and held it in place with JBWeld on the mating surfaces.

I realize a 5 speed is a nice upgrade to our cars....but I'm not considering one.

I just drove my 4 speed 72 Bavaria over 2,000 miles. Bellingham, WA to Monterey and back...at least one day over 600 miles.

I got right at 20 MPG for the trip. Maybe I could have eked out 22 with the 5 speed?

The engine sound would be less with the 5 speed, but that sound is more like music to me than noise. The wind and road noise would be exactly the same.

I used 1/2 quart of oil on that trip. I might have used less with an OD?

Our cars ran at 90MPH all day on the autobahn "back in the day" with a 4 speed.

Even if there were measurable fuel economy and comfort considerations with an OD, the trip to Monterey was probably a one time adventure for me (and a great one at that! :) ). I just generally don't do enough hours of highway driving at a stretch to rationalize the benefit of an OD against the cost and the work.

That's my story...and I'm sticking to it. ;)
