Hi
Anybody replaced just the throw out bearing sleeve on a 5 speed.. Pressed in ? Screwed on? can't quite figure it out I don't have a removed one on hand to see and can find any actual photos of it by itself nor reference on how to remove or install. Looks like BMW still sells them.

Thanks as always for any input from the collective

I am not sure you can do that?? You probably CAN but the whole thing is pretty cheap, but get the best one you can find. Mine is making noise after only 5,000 miles, luckily for me I'm taking everything out in a couple months- after the Vintage :-)

Easy once the box is out, it just unbolts but you will need a new seal and a new paper gasket. The gasket material is important as all the measurements are taken with gasket in place. DO NOT lose any shims and make sure that they all go back in at exactly the same place. These don't make noise unless they are very, very worn from a lack on lube and it is usually the relase brg gets a little hung up on it but I have had them apart where they have been quite worn and still work OK

Thanks, Rick

Thanks Rick. And for anyone wondering Looks like the guide sleeve presses out and the small disk I mentioned locates it so it doesn't turn.

I don't believe there is a gasket in that location on the 265. They did away with it to eliminate the problems with various gasket thicknesses. You need some sealant that won't add any thickness. There's a million kinds, something like loctite anaerobic sealant should do it.

I think you are correct Layne...I have had 3 of these apart (long story) and have not come across a gasket yet. I have used Loctite 518 with good luck in the past.
