Does anyone know off the top of their head what the allen key size for the fill and drain plugs.

i haven't done this in a while - my memory says either 10mm or 17mm

I 'm going with 17MM but they appear to be scarce here in NE Florida

mercedes benz used to have a special wrench with a hex insert - inset into a box-end wrench. it worked perfectly. somebody borrowed mine and i never got it back. i want another one

Nice find. Remember to loosen the side one first so if it's frozen you don't have an empty tranny and SOL!

Its a good thing the fill plug came out easily as I didn't read your post in time! My project was to R & R the o-ring and seal on the speedometer drive. My M30B35 has about 2K on it since swap-out over a year ago and with all new seals and gaskets it still nice and clean and dry, but there was a pesky drop or three of gearbox oil on the garage floor from the speedo drive. All looks good now.
