I received a message from Stan today with the title as above. He found out last week that he had a detached retina and had surgery today to reattach. He is confined to bed on his right side with his face pointed down for 55 minutes an hour, the other 5 minutes he gets to sit up. Tomorrow he gets to sit up for 10 minutes every hour, after that 20 minutes an hour for the next two weeks, can you imagine what that must be like?

From what I have gotten to know about Stan is he is a workaholic and he travels on business about 2 to 3 weeks every month. He can still check on our site so I thought I would post a thread where members could send Stan their best wishes. It will keep him from dying of boredom, or maybe not!

Inhale, exhale

Well, look at it this way- IF you choose to take up inhaling that wacky stuff again after all these decades, you can at least say now," It's for medicinal purposes."

Seriously, get well.

hey Stan,

here's hoping that the recovery goes well and you are back to doing stuff for your coupe and enjoying your life. its hell getting old.

all the best

Get Well - Stay Young

Geez Stan - I thought anyone that has the flare and good taste to drive a white car with a red interior must be way too young to need that much rest. Hope we hear from you soon and everything heals well.

Stan, too bad they can't put you into that sleep machine Charlton Heston used in Planet of the Apes. Hope the time goes fast and you make some great plans.

I hope all goes well. Retina surgery is my line of work and I know how hard, but so important, it is to keep your head in the right position.

It seems that a retinal detachment comes at the worst times...I like to say that it is a "monkey wrench" in ones life. You have to stop what your doing and take the time to get it fixed.

PM if you have any questions or if I can be of any help.

I think I am beyond the worst ofit now. The tears were repaired with cold laser. Then some gas was injected into my eye. Thankfully the detract comment was at the too nasal side of my eye and the gas bubble has been able to push the retina back against my eyeball. I could actually see the gas bubbles in my field of vision.

Today most of the gas is gone. My vision has returned to the area that was dark and I am confident of a complete recovery.

If any of you ever see floaters in your vision, this is normal. If you see a very big one that was not there yesterday, get checked quickly! I learned that my ophthalmologist office has doctors on call who will meet you at their office after hours. Had I known that and gon Saturday I might have gotten away with laser repain and avoided the detachment.

Glad you are on the downside of the Hill. Thanks for the tip. I notice all kinds of trash when I put on a scuba mask and see things floating around in my field on vision. They look like hairs on a camera lense.

Even Massholes can be nice

Hey there Stan, wishing you all the very best and fastest of recoveries.

From your coupe buddy down in MA

Hope you will be at full strength for the first coupe cruise of 2012.... let's make a plan for the new year!

cheers from Boston

Type A

Maybe time for some of us to slow a bit, smell the nitro or Sunoco 260, yes? Cheers brother and a quick recovery.

retinal issues

Hi Stan,
I just now read of your problems, and am happy to hear that things have gone so well. I came close to a detachment (acc'd to my doc..) a few years ago, and it aint no picnic. Good luck on a speedy for Christmas recovery. Take care.

Good on ya, Stan. Behave and (we all hope) you will be back to 100 percent in due course of time. You've beaten one brush with the Old Man, now to take care of this one.
