I have searched the forum extensively for info on replacement glass for the
rectangular mirrors on a 72 3.0CS.
I see info on the trapezoids but not the rectangular?

I can have the mirrors re-chromed but they need new glass?
I even looked at 2002 mirrors.

I have searched the internet but no good solution yet?
New ones are shown in parts for $200 ea.

Anybody have info on this?

mirror glass

hi gary:
i broke my trapezoid glass and the glass shop suggested that i go to autozone, or parts store and get a glass replacement (like a truck size) and bring it to him to cut to size to fit my mirror. i did and it worked well. remember to bring the plastic mirror frame and frame so that he cuts it exactly to fit inside the framework. he charged me $5 for cutting. mirror glass at store varies from 10 to 18$

Gary,

how much will rechroming cost? the new flag mirrors are only 122.80 from tomkinson. 51161821793 + 94. the list is 161.58 per side. for those that need new glass for traps, its 27 bucks from tomkinson

Good points from both w chen and rs.

First I did see the glass you are talking about and bought a piece that is bigger than I need.
I was going to try cutting it myself.. I have been know to do more complicated things.

Second I did think that Scott. May be better to just bite the check book and spend.
Then it's all brand new.
Probably cost $50-75ea to have them chromed and then they still need glass.

I think one reason I was trying to put glass in them is because currently the finish on them is pretty good.

But if I'm going to do everything this winter might as well start with the easy stuff. Buy them and put them aside.

Hope everyone has a great father's day.

I thought it was almost impossible to remove the glass from a flag mirror. I have these on my coupe but US coupes had trap mirrors on them originally at least through 73. Because they weren't available for years and also because flags are larger many got replaced in later years. Especially if it came with only a driver side mirror and later on you wanted a passenger side mirror.

You know I haven't tried to get the glass out because I don't have a replacement.
After all it does work in it's current condition.

Chris you are correct, I replaced a friend's trap mirrors and it was easy. I just checked my flag mirrors and they don't want to be pressed in against the spring like the traps....how do you get them out? I didn't want to press too hard.

Isn't the mirror surround on the flag pattern mirrors made of SS and thus polish-able?

I found out the hard way not to use any abrasive on the coated mirror surface.... so water spot removal is made more difficult.
