Hi all,

Today I fitted my new/restored BBS RS 005/006 wheels. 7x16 ET11 front and 8x16 ET24 rear.

In the rear it's all good but the front rubs.

I'm running Pirelli P7 tyres, 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rear.

I thought this setup would be perfect from reading on here.

The fenders are not rolled and the car is on Carl Nelson lowering springs.

Does anyone know what might be wrong here?

Thanks

Which side rubs? Tire on strut or outside on fender?

If outside rubs you may need to install the offset camber plates and if inside rubs you may need the 3 mm spacers.

It's on the fender. I was thinking about the La Jolla Neg. Camber plates since I also have the springs. But I can't find pics of how it will look on the car. I'm afraid it will look odd with a 5 degree change (La Jolla website says 5-8 degrees)

I'm surprised that they rub. If you don't want to roll the fenders or install camber plates you still have some options. You can shave the back of the wheels. You can shave the rotors. I would start with a conversation with the tire shop, and see if another tire brand has a less squared off sidewall profile. The plan for my tricky wheel fitment is to completely replicate another forum members' tire selection.

They are almost guaranteed to rub with that size tire/wheel combo and lowering springs. Rolling will help as will the camber plate, it's 0.5 degrees, not 5 degrees. Look in lower right corner of this photo showing the camber plate, very subtle change.

Gorgeous! I haven't paid much attention to E9 camber plates. I assumed that they were adjustable. These look fixed and subsequently much more discrete.

I guess I was surprised about the ET11 7" wheel rubbing because the factory offered 7" E9 wheels in that offset. In theory wheel diameter shouldn't matter but in practice you'll end up with a much more squared off tire with a 16" wheel. If you rub the fender with lowering springs, you'll likely rub the fender without them. The difference is that you will only rub when going over large bumps without the lowering springs. Anyway given how discrete the camber plates are, it makes sense to start there first IMO.

Yes you need the negative camber plates and rolled inner front fender lips. I'm running a a square set of BBS RS 16x 7 with 205/55 16s. I shredded my front sidewalls last year with only lowering springs.

I run 16x7.5 wheels front and rear. ET20. The car is lowered on Carl's springs. After rolling the fenders, there is no rubbing. Maybe ET11 pushes the wheel out a bit too much?

That said... if you want to mess with camber, I'd suggest adjustable K-Mac strut mounts:

I have them on my car and adjust negative for track days. The advantage would be that you could dial in just the amount of camber you want (unlike fixed plates), and they are cheaper than stock strut mounts. Bav Auto carries them.

there are adjustable camber plates for an e9 ... the carl nelson plates are fixed. if you want adjustable plates = bavauto sells some, so does ireland.

I ordered the camber plates from Carl Nelson. But about the fender rolling... Doesn't that devalue the car be a large amount?

I am about to fit new wheels and had planned to have my fenders rolled. I was not aware that it was as accessible as obtaining a fender rolling tool but indeed ebay is full of them for the said 50 odd bucks. Looking at your image you have one so may I ask if any are better than others and what exactly the process is? I looks like you just mount that centre to the hub and then start to apply pressure and roll it down until content. There is mention to use a heat gun but is there anything else to consider? I don't mind giving it a go as I am yet to address the exterior refinish.

Go slow and steady and keep the paint nice and warm.
It's easy.

Hi sreams and sorry for have resurrected this thread.
Did you have installed spacers on the front wheels or you run your set up, 16x7.5 et20, freely?
Did you have some pics that shows the clearence between the tyre and the strut?
Thanks in advance!
