Hi Folks,

I saw this one the other day but it's now on BAT as well. Anyone's coupe here? Sharp looking car! Before the price goes through the roof, it would be good for the seller or someone else to comment on the typical black goo near the strut towers.

Every BAT posting I've read on coups is the same "These things rust from the inside out" without much other intelligent input.

Rusting from inside out

You can observe this process by looking inside the hole in the upper posterior part of of the front wheel well.
You can look with a borescope. But if you don't have one, you can put your iphone on movie and stick it up in there and start rotating it around. You can see the underside of the front fenders and that seam.

Second, the other place they rust is from inside the rocker panels. The drainage from the Roundel on the c pillar goes inside the rocker panel, which should have holes to let the water out, but these get blocked and it is curtains for that metal.

So these are places that explain the rusting from the inside out.

My 2800cs

Hi all,
Mark here in Fredericksburg VA. I know difficult to believe but shock towers are fine and comment regarding black paint to blend is truthful. Certainly if any members in Richmond/Northern Virginia area would like to inspect for themselves or others please do!

As mentioned in add I have a disability and can no longer get in and out of the car. Thus the sale. If anyone has any questions please ask. I am going to change a picture later today to try to represent the bubbles around the sunroof the best I can. There is 1 current pic that shows them. Also the middle section of the rear seat has a crack at the top. As in add I will include tan velour seats and multiple tan panels to buyer if interested, though everything associated with shipping will have to be arranged by buyer.

Best,

Mark

Thanks for commenting Mark. I was hoping you would chime in. The blend matches a typical fender "repair" unfortunatley. The car will either go to someone who inspects the area and concludes that it is fine, or to a buyer that doesn't know/care.

Well I suppose the other option would be to believe what I have said. If there are any other ways to represent the health of the towers/fenders let me know. I'm hoping someone from the forum is interested in the car, will be close enough to take a look, and report back to the forum.

I meant no offense. I wish my car looked as nice as yours. Taking any seller's explanation (including yours) at face value falls under "not caring" in my book though. I do this all the time when the financial risk is low. For instance, I just bought used 5x108 wheels advertised as 5x120. I didn't even consider checking. If I am dropping $10-$30K on a 40yo classic car, you better believe that I would have it thoroughly inspected. It is certainly a reasonable request from a buyer, and should indicate a lack of trust or respect.

I think the difference between the comments in this for sale thread and BAT is that the members actually know (from experience) what real issues or non-issues a given car may present. Every e9 I've seen listed on BAT is scoffed at as a rusty nightmare, regardless of the condition. Just like BAT, most existing members aren't looking for a new car.

I hope a current or future forum member picks it up. As I mentioned in the first post, it looks really sharp. I'm just sorry to hear that you can no longer enjoy it. Best of luck with your sale!
