Hello there, this might be a longish intro, hope I'm forgiven.
As I finally got approved for this wonderful forum and before I'll pester you with questions and advice, I thought it at least prudent to introduce myself as well as the car...
I'm an Icelandic native, have lived all over the world for many years now, currently reside in Stockholm, Sweden. Garage contains at the moment of a 964 C4 in Amethyst, or Violet, e39 M5, the e9, new daily Audi and some two wheeled counterparts.
The car in question is a 1973 3.0 CSa, completely original and has stood for some years now. The following info I got from BMW:
I do not have any further info about the car per se, the former owner had an overnight stop at an US airport, saw the car on Ebay after drinking a few beers, placed a bid, went to sleep and woke up having won the bid... The car was then imported to my native Iceland, where it still is, and driven a few times there and then placed in storage until I bought it this winter.
Now, the car is in decent-ish shape, I guess, it passed the vehicle inspection without a problem and is mechanically very sound indeed, surprisingly so in fact. Interior is superb as well, leather very, very good, headliner OK-ish and carpets very good. Engine starts immediately and the car drives and goes extremely well.
Body issues a bit further down as well as pics...
I've come to a conclusion as to which direction I want to take the car cosmetically, will not keep it completely stock, rather have it to my liking, all show and less go. I'll go bumper less at the front with a CSL air dam, black fiberglass rear bumper (car currently has the big US rear bumper and lacks the rubber inserts on the front bumper), the car will be kept Polaris and Alpina style wheels will be bought from Mr. Coupeking. Black stripes, 3.0 CS along the sides and I'm still debating whether to buy a trunk lid spoiler thing or not. Interior I'll keep mostly stock, will buy a Moto Lita leather steering wheel and will probably upgrade the stereo a bit. Everything else will be cleaned and/or fixed.
The shopping list goes longer by the day and the budget is long gone way south, as usually happens in these kind of things. Just don't tell my wife...
So far I've bought all rubber seals from Coupeguy, more rubber seals from W&N as well as badges and letters, strut bearings and plenty of smaller stuff.
I've been advised to buy a new trunk lid, will buy new from BMW if I don't find a decent one in the EU and the body guy would also prefer a new hood... All the cheap items. Fenders I don't know about as yet.
As previously mentioned the car drives very well, everything, well almost works, exceptions are sunroof, stuck or the wire, have bought a Volvo one, will see if that fits first and the windows don't work either, will see how big a problem that will be.
Body wise the car is very, very nice from a distance but there is of course rust, how much we will see when we get down and dirty. I will have the car stripped and sand blasted, all rust fixed, new parts in and then painted. All will be done professionally, I'm only good for paying I'm afraid.
I'm again sorry for the lengthy intro, I'm sure I've forgotten many things and will for sure pester you with questions along the way.
Pics below, I do hope you've seen worse and don't think me a complete mad man for undertaking this resto!
Thanks,
Gisli
