Hi All,

I am new to these forums and as suggested am introducing myself.

I have been a long time admirer of the E9, and am now getting serious about acquiring one. So, anyone out there who can point me in the directions of a RHD CS, all assistance greatly appreciated.

Previous classics are a 1958 FC Holden (think shrink wrapped 56 Chevy), and a 1971 Volvo P1800E (beautiful shape, no grunt).

First question for the group is a rough cost to acquire and fit a 5 speed to an auto car? I have seen a few auto cars in great condition, but have always let them pass as I really want a manual. I notice in these pages that this conversion seems a fairly common job.

Regards,
Craig

Craig,

E9s are quite rare to find here in Australia. I don't know of any on the market at present, and prices seem to be rising.

A black automatic was recently on the market in Sydney, advertised at $36K. It was only listed for about three weeks.

I would recommend contacting Bill at IDB Automotive in North Richmond in Melbourne. He specialises in E9s and may know of some cars for sale.

Five speed gearboxes can cost from $750-$1500, plus you need a flywheel, clutch, master and slave cylinders, and pedals (pedals seem to be the hardest parts to source). Adjust the length of the driveshaft, shifter tongue and crossmember.

Good Luck

Hi Craig, if your getting serious and can't find a car in Oz, there are two here in NZ for sale on "trade me" I have no affiliation with them, just know of them being for sale, both are autos unfortunately.
Both are approx $30k, so with the dollar, landed in Aus would probably owe you about $30-35k Aus $ I guess

This one is in Christchurch and is a ex Japan car

This ones in Auckland, looks not to bad from the photos

Thanks Gents

Rod, good to know on the gearbox, and I'll touch base with Bill at IDB.

Steve, I have spotted the blue one on Trade Me, but am still looking for a manual, rather than an auto that I have to convert as a first option. I'll do the conversion if I have to, but it's early days in the serious search, so will keep my eyes peeled for a manual.

Thank you so much for the replies, and I'll keep you in the loop on progress.
