Looks as if the example set by the Orange County SoCal car owners that started a few years back as Crystal Cove and then morphed in Cars 'n Coffee is being copied around the country.

Last Saturday a friend and his wife showed up from Connecticut at our weekly Irvine gathering at C'nC--along with about 1800 others--to look at the 400 or so cars of nearly every desirable type still drivable that show up weekly--always some new ones to see as there are still car guys in this area that have never been there. Our BMW contingent is usually well represented with a dozen or so various models including 4-6 Coupes as a typical showing--my East Coast friend has 3 superb early cars--all very low miles--commented of a similar undertaking in Coastal Conn. that has been dubbed Caffiene 'n Cars--sorry don't recall the town or specific location.

Have also heard of other gatherings being ramped up and or now happening at other Metropolitan locations--weather permitting--around our beautiful country.

great timing

I was going to post about the Irvine gathering today because I finally made the trip out to witness one. I'm at LAX waiting for the redeye back to the East Coast and I'm still thinking about this morning. You guys in So. Cal. are lucky.
I was hoping to meet Murray, but according to the R gruppe guys, today was one of the few times that he wasn't in attendance. Oh well, maybe next trip. I couldn't find the owner of the sole coupe there this morning either, was it anyone here?

I think that my silver 2800CS whas the only e9 at Cars and Coffee Irvine yesterday - the intermittant showers we were having seems to have frightened the others away. There were several 2002's, as well as a pack of Corvairs (including a both a mid-engined and a front-engined version), a pack of Sunbeam Tigers, and the usual assortment of rat rods, classics, Ferraris, and stuff too odd to categorize. This event is a car junkie's dream. Ford Motor's willingness to provide the space and pay for police presence (and no doubt insurance) is greatly appreciated.

What a great event - who's property is it held on?

Ford Motor. Ford has a fairly large facility in Irvine. I guess it is some sort of Western Regional headquarters - it used to include a design studio, west coast dealer support, and what they called the "Premier Auto Group" which was the various upscale brands that Ford owns or used to own: Volvo, Jaguar, and the like.

Ford has since downsized that facility, and has sold or is leasing much of the building to Taco Bell (how's that for a sorry statement on American business?). But, Ford still has a presence in Irvine, and Taco Bell & Ford still allow their parking lot to be used for this event. Ford is spending money on security, bathrooms, incremental maintenance, insurance, .... to accommodate a group of wacko enthusiasts, many of whom haven't bought a new car since 1964. So, it is a nice gesture on Ford's part.

My point is that it would be difficult to duplicate the Irvine Cars and Coffee without corporate support.

Don't overlook Mazda's role in the sponsoring of space where our C 'n C event is held.

Sorry i missd yesterday, had slept in--was just getting over an inner ear issue that had lasted three days and screws up my balance--so walking is very difficult--and driving was out during that time as well. OK today.

kwyjibo--sorry we missed meeting as I am a regular at the event as is Jay, Chris, Fred, Paul, Andy, Ron and many others.

My showing up there was a completely unplanned part of a business trip - I was waking up between 3 and 4 am because I was still on EST, so Saturday morning I thought that I'd drive out to Balboa where I lived in the late 80's and look around. Just before the 405/55 interchange a T6 356 entered the freeway and it made me think of the Cars and Coffee. It seemed to be going there so I followed it.

I'm not sure if the magnitude of the event is obvious in my crappy cellphone photo panorama, but this FREE and WEEKLY event is better than most car shows I've seen. Definitely worth making plans to witness it if you're ever within a couple hours of Irvine.

Sorry, I didn't find you Jay. (BTW, Jay's car is sandwiched somewhere between where the photos were taken and the Mazda building.)
