Guidance on pricing '74 CS

here is my current curiosity - what is going on with the finish of the fender tops. the sound insulation on top of the fenders has a really odd texture - like it had a coating put on top ... that was later painted silver. so you should take pics of the fender cavities (remove the wheel + take pics). this is like taking the rocker covers off and taking pics of the rockers and the floors ... you are giving potential buyers a way to make an informed opinion. remember the old rule about rust on coupes - what you see is only 20% of the rust that is there.

the inner firewall is the best i have seen on a coupe that is looking for somebody to rescue it.

the mechanicals - you know the braking system needs attention. that is relatively contained cost-wise ... but important. the engine, steering and suspension are something entirely different. if they need work i am going to widen the range from 35k to 50k. the more issues, the more you are at / below the 35k number ... the more solid things are, the greater the chance to get to the upper end.
Scott,

I have to agree, that inner fire wall around the fuses is better than most of the shiny cars I get to see.

Looks like the seller is being forthright here, actually refreshing to see

Good luck on the sale @ScottE9Project

I agree on a closer inspection, rust repairs could be very expensive, even on a good looking car
And This one reveals some danger points, rust holes already in door, Odd welds and strange repairs in the engine compartment, not straight surfaces there, paint sprayed on top of this, very suspicious
I can see two ways,

Prices in euro, done here,

Some maintenance and recovery of mechanics, functions, …2k
Superficial repairs of metal plus normal paint, 6k
Interior repair and cleaning, 5k
Total, 13k and enjoy it as it is

Mechanical works, 6k
Bodyshop rust remove, 20k
Paint, 5k
Interior perfection, 10k
Parts if needed, ?
Total, +41k, and get a concourse car, almost

So , for a selling price, make your guess
What is a price of a good car ? Would you do some of that work ?…

Say you sell for 50k
To get a driver good aspect, next owner will spend total 63k ,….maybe good
To get a close to concours car next owner will need to spend 91k and care of the trouble, ….not good

Imho

one thing we haven't really talked about is ... the current state of the vintage car market. sales prices are down / a little soft currently. we have seen that across the board. what makes the difference is definitive information and i agree with @BMW Pete that @ScottE9Project is being very forthright and upfront ... which is refreshing. i would hope that some of the other Dallas coupers might go help him evaluate the car and perhaps there is somebody here that might be interested in finishing the saving of this coupe

The market as Scott said is a mash up.

I subscribe to a number of things… have some auction ties. One well known US auction last month… 46% of the field RNM. Now RNM is nothing unusual. It’s the resolve. Extremely low resolve rate. I would characterize the field as middle market. About where our cars are.

Would I call it a buyers market.., not yet but it certainly is not the opposite.

Just to add some "up to the minute" data to this conversation, it might be worth taking note of car that just didn't meet reserve this afternoon on Bring-a-Trailer. This is an example that appears to have all of the ticket items completed (chassis, body, paint, interior, mechanicals), and it RNM'd at $66,500. I feel this puts this conversation in context relative to the market right now. One might argue that the lower end of Scott's range is more realistic today.

I expect IvoCristov's Malaga coupe to go much higher, but that one presents as a special car. My 2 cents.

Hey guys, had to take a few days away from this. More pics coming of the fender wells and undercarriage. Will also record the startup and try recording a drive around the block. If there are any Dallas forum guys who have the time to take a look as well to help assess value, just let me know.

More photos and some videos of starting and driving.

We are six days, actually three market days, into the Tariff.... I will let you fill in the blank based on your political persusion. I believe the rule about the stock market holds true for the classic car market. "Buy low, Sell high." This is not the time to be selling a car, it is the time to be buying. For what it is worth.
