Values finally moving on the Hagerty charts for the 2800cs, 3.0cs and 3.0csi. Their values have been flat for years, and now a jump 10-12% up in just the last 6 months.

don't see changes in the 2800cs
condition 1 - 19.8k to 23.8k
condition 2 - 14.4k to 17.1k

3.0cs
condition 1 - 37.9k to 57.4k
condition 2 - 25.1k to 33.9k

3.0csi
condition 1 - 39.5k to 60.1k
condition 2 - 26.8k to 35.1k

the start of the range is from 2006 and they started to climb from april 2013 to aug 2013 ... then slightly more thru dec 2013.

All three have a jump in the last two reports, even the 2800cs but it is heavier on the condition 3 and 4.... Its all good. Prices are moving higher and the rougher cars bringing more money will push the better cars up.

Not sure if everyone can view these. You don't have to have their insurance, but you do have to register to view multiple vehicles. You can also compare vehicles values over time like a portfolio, similar to stock charting, based on Hagerty's valuations. I can tell my wife I'm up 20% for the year on my collection and have the numbers to convince her.

I am not saying Hagerty's numbers are right..... but it is a fun website if you are window shopping. Check out their valuation for the 1979 Porsche 911 turbo (930). If they are right then my kids college fund should be spent on cars.

Still disappointing to see how they value a 2800cs - 50% of a similar condition 3.0cs. Plain ridiculous
i completely agree. i think it has something to do with not recording sales of excellent condition 2800cs ... such as blumax.

there were a couple of '74 3.0csi that sold for many dollars at Mecum and RM

these are higher profile actions and probably get more weight in Hagerty's valuation, and these set the bar. E-bay listings, craigslist and forums might be part, but can not be verified and very hard to track. Bluemax was a private sale and may not have been recorded at all.

were there any results for a condition 1 2800cs at a high profile auction house? Maybe there are some coming. Might be a good time to buy a good 2800cs before the values jump. The good thing is that the CS and CSi is starting to show movement, not just the CSLs, M1 and 507.

Interesting……. the second coupe in post #7 sold for 60K and was a “frame off” restoration, a very tricky task on a uni-body car for sure . ~ John Buchtenkirch

Yep, after 50 hours of billable labor they were sure that if it had a frame it was surely off the car.

Would it be reasonable to say that a 2800CS is worth about 10% less than a comparable 3.0CS ? There are really no differences other than 200 cc and 10 HP. True or false ?

Yes and no - it really depends on the specific vehicle.

What differs is the 200cc, disc brakes and transmission internals as well.

But after 40 years the 2800 gets upgraded and naturely becomes a 3.0cs or better. Especially if you upgrade brakes, motor to 3.5L variety and 5 sp trans.. All these upgrades are very popular.
