My E-bay purchase arrived from Honolulu via Pasha Shipping then with a little help from AAA (used one of my free tows) is now in Carlsbad.
The seller "2800CS" was fantastic and helped with the shipping and giving me additional details of the car. Given that he had posted 400 photos I have to say there were no real surprises. No glaring rust or rot (other than the doors which I was aware of..) Buying a car on E-Bay without physically inspecting was a bit of a gamble, but I believe I did ok....hardest part was waiting for it to get here.
Being aware the the scarcity and price of a lot of the parts for the CS I went a little overboard and also picked up the 2 73 Bavaria's were for sale as a set locally. One a rusty parts donor and the other much cleaner except for a heavy curb hit in left front that took it off the road in 2002. A tech at one of the local BMW dealers was selling it for the widow of a long time BMWCCA member who was also the Equipment Manager for the San Diego BMW car club (for the auto cross trailer) . Turns out the car was a European delivery one owner car. He had also put in a later engine (77 630 by the vin) and added pauter rods and what may be a schrick cam, Webers and also included a working Becker Gran Prix radio which will be going in the CS. Both Bavarias have A/C and 4 speeds and complete large tool kits (with the red screwdrivers). Needless to say the rusty one is getting parted out to donate to my spares stock pile for CS and needed electrical and door handles etc.. And yes it included a working Wiper/turn signal switch (harness connectors yet to be modified before replacing the one in the CS.)
Now the fun begins.....
