Is there a write up regarding installation procedure of head on the block making sure that valves, pistons & timing are all done right?

yes, in the blue manuals !

Number 1 piston at TDC, verify by flywheel and harmonic balancer. Cam shaft at TDC, mark on end of cam directly centered to oil spray bar and both valves closed.

Number 1 piston at TDC, verify by flywheel and harmonic balancer. Cam shaft at TDC, mark on end of cam directly centered to oil spray bar and both valves OF CYLINDER NUMBER 1 closed.
