Hi guys,

Another prob I'm experiencing:

My blower has never worked; now that I have fitted an ammeter I can see that when the switch is operated there is a current draw, so that means the switch and wiring are fine and the prob is with the motor itself right?

How would you guys go about dismantling and overhauling the blower motor? Or is there another way of getting it working?

Removing the blower motor is pretty easy. What happens mostly is the bearings or brushes get stuck from sitting. There are three or four spring clips and the fan/ motor will pop off/ out of the housing.

Soak the bearings a few times- 3 in 1 oil or similar, use electrical cleaner on the brushes/ holder, check the coil heat soak to make sure they didn't come loose/ burn.

I use my battery charger on the work bench. Sometimes you have to push the brushes to contact the armature, but you'll know exactly what's the problem at that point!

There are replacement motors if all else fails. Mesa used to sell them.

Thanks 61, got it working again simply by turning it on and "starting" the motor with a medium sized screw driver through the grille mesh! It was very squeaky at first but after a 3 hour drive with it on it's now fine.

One thing though, even with it switched on full the amount of face level air being blown in isn't great, it would be a lot better if I could work out how to shut off air being blown to the windscreen or my feet, is there a way of doing this?
