Now refurbishing my heater / blower unit and of course the old insulation foam disintegrates upon contact. Any suggestions as to what I could replace this with? Also what heat resistant adhesive to use.
How hot do these things get, especially the heater unit? The old foam looked like it would catch fire quite easily though obviously it doesn't.

Hi Gazz, great timing . Wally Siswadji (Inka CSL ) has nearly finished refurbishing his heater box and mine ...a work of art ! I sourced 3mm and 5mm sheets of foam off ebay that Wally cut into strips ...the foam was out of Sydney as I recall (Hytec I think ). The rest of the stuff such as neoprene foam/ rubber ( for "flaps" ) was sourced from Clark Rubber together with spray-on adhesive . Send me a PM if need be ...I'm sure Wally would be happy to walk you through the process and alert you to some of the pitfalls for the unwary . Cheers, Simon

Hey Simon. The Australian summer must be when we pull out our heaters.
Perhaps for the benefit of any others interested would you please let me know what foam / rubber / adhesive you used and the process.
Did you confirm that any foam and adhesives used won't release any nasty toxic fumes when heated and that they are heat resistant?

Also, what is the gunk that is applied to the broad edge of the unit to fit to the car bulkhead. I presume it is a bitumen type compound that stays soft to create the seal around the opening. It was still soft when I scraped it all off.

Hi Gazz, as indicated , I only sourced the foam whereas Wally is the "tech" and is the one that will be able to answer your questions . If you PM me/give me your email address then I can send you the link(s) for you to post ( sorry, I've only "progressed" to posting photos ...sort of) .

BTW, I'm not hooking my heater box up after it's installed ...I'm more about keeping cool man!
