I've got a couple of blower motors on the bench with fan cages attached. Both are "stiff." I've sprayed lubricant everywhere a I can but that does not seem to free them up. They turn, but not freely.

Can someone tell me how to remove the squirrel cage and or otherwise disassemble the motor so that I can lubricate the bearings? There is a steel sleeve that is friction fit over the plastic sleeve that through which the motor shaft passes, but that seems only a reinforcing ring.

Thanks.

Hey Jim - I'd say if they are like that they are shot and it wouldn't be worth going at them - maybe worth putting some gearbox oil on them while turning them - if you apply power do they turn?

I believe they would turn if I hooked them directly to a battery, albeit not as they should. Probably would draw enough current to blow the fuse when installed. Will give it a try.

I found a post from some time back where someone talked about sending them to a place to have them refurbished. I had the same problem with one of my Volvos but got it to free up nicely. Figured if only I could get the CS fan off the motor ...
