Caught these on ebay and was wondering whether the asking price was correct. I know you can get an updated version of these lights for under $200. Is the 70's vintage worth that much more? Are there design cues that would distinguish the older style 500's from the newer ones - I'm guessing the housing is probably deeper and chrome maybe?

Thanks,

That seller is known for ridiculous prices. Those are from a later period, they have the blue logo in the center. Realistically around $100. I found a pair of the Hella 160 6" fogs for $25 a year ago.

These just don't look right...need a photo of the back too which is not provided. You want rounded chrome in the back and not conical looking. I am not sure if the ones on ebay are black plastic on back. Those look more the $100 set.
There is a set of Hella H3 from germany...seller rs914 for $399! Just look at pictures for reference.
Also look at the different diameters available and do a search on this forum under fog lights.
If you look in the photo section you will find period correct fog lights. Also the under the bumper rectangular do not look right....IMHO.

I recently scored a set of NOS Hella 500 fog lights off my local Craigslist for $40. They've been sitting in the original box on the sellers shelf since the early 90's. They will soon be going on my daughters E12 who destroyed her fog lights on a parking block.
