Based on a part number on the lens, can anyone tell me if these vintage HELLA rally lights are of the drive or spot type? 0 01-113824-02 I've tried contacting HELLA but no reply.

Thank you!

generally lights this size with relatively simple lenses are generally a basic driving light. heavily faceted lights are fog lights (to divert light sideways). 'spot' lights generally throw light in a wider spread (like a headlight) - medium facets, the only other type is a 'pencil' beam which directs light in a very fine cone - and pushes light to give you more reaction time - those are big with special reflectors.

@rsporsche Many thanks for the quick and detailed reply! Based on the image, would you say these are most likely a basic driving light and not the "pencil" beam for far distance, which I require for rallying? Thank you.

my guess is they are basic driving lights. remember pencil beams were generally used with other lights back in the day for 'pro' rallies - along with 2 basic driving and 2 fogs to light up the world at night. if you look at the Lancia below - you will see the two center lights that are clear - these are pencil beams ... the reflectors just focus the light and send it out there. on the Lancia Stratos (at the bottom) you see the fogs down low, the normal driving lights on either side of the pencils. keep in mind, these are SERIOUS rally cars that drove flat out during the most dangerous time in rallying

Sounds like you should hook one up to a battery and see how narrow and far the beam is...
