Just solved an annoying headlight mismatch problem, my headlight illumination was dominated by the driver side headlight.
Once I thought it was alignment of height and lateral pattern of the headlights, so Terri stoped by a while ago and used his magic gadget to geometrically align all four headlights. See picture.
Then I thought one of the reflectors being new (glass cracked so I replaced one) caused the mismatch against a dirtier reflector on the other side. Opened up the dirty one to clean it, and one mysterious phenomenon is that a bulb can last forever in spite of the vibrations and forces of driving the car on streets and highways. But the moment you remove the bulb and carefully lay it on the bench the filament breaks... go figure.
Got a new bulb and turns out there are stock and bright versions of the 55W bulb. Obviously my bulbs wee mismatched. Now all is good.
Lesson, replace things in pairs and resist the temptation to clean things that work fine even when dirty.
