Hello coupe enthusiasts. I a new member in this forum but I have have owned several BMWs to include 5 E9s. My first car was a 1976 2002 18 years ago. I am in the US Army currently in Iraq in support of OIF. I am looking for a E9. Something reasonably priced. I have a drive train that I pulled out of 88 M5 that I want to use, so it could be a nice rolling chassis. I will also consider good complete cars but ofcourse the primary focus is minimal or no rust. I have done 2 full up restoration on e9s so I am very familiar with them. Unfourtionatly I had to sell them due to life changes, but now after spending a year in the desert I want to treat myself to a coupe. I will consider 2800s, automatics, big bumper cars, but the ultimate find for me would be a very clean chassis (small bumpers) with decent trim and interior and a bad drivetrain. If anyone knows of something please let me know. What I don't want is patched up rusty bodies with high fill primer and no body lines. My budget varies depending on the vehicle. Please contact me at [email protected]

Wishing you Alejandro a safe service away from home, we'll keep our eyes open for a good California E9 you can look forward on your return. The closest E9 you can find may actually be next door in Iran :). (last year I think somebody posted picture of one parked in a street in Iran).

Thanks for your service. You're gonna love driving an E9 with a 88 M5 engine,
5 speed tranny and 3.64 rear end. It will be scary fast. I have the same setup,
but with a 91 S38 M5 motor and Turner engineering chip ~ 345 HP. The stock
brakes should be upgraded to stainless steel pucks and they will stop the car
safely.

Regards.

Alejandro is taking advantage of all the tax free income that's a benefit of serving in the sandbox. I took advantage of all the tax free income I saved last year from my tour in Qatar. I bought Frank Haas 81 Euro spec 528i shortly after I returned.

Hello

Thank you guys. It is my honor to serve our wonderfull country. Please keep your eyes open for any gems hidding in grandma's garage. I am not looking for anything too original since I will be modifying it, but if it is a good deal let me know. Thank you. Alex

Don't worry Alex, we will...be advised that good deals on CS coupes don't come up too often and when they do it's only because you buy the best car you can afford and one that's already been restored, especially given the Coupe's tendency to rust from all directions at once...

keep up the good fight over there!

Thank you

Than you Ran for looking at that white e9 for me. Eagerly waithing the report. Alex

Alex,

I was in Iraq (Ramadi) last spring and now I'm in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, the scenery where I am is not much different than where I was in Iraq, so it feels like I'm on the same long deployment. Anyway, I currently own two coupes and need to sell one before I PCS when I return next year. Unfortunately, it is the opposite of what you are looking for; it has a fantastic driveline/engine/suspension (5spd OD, 3.5L, 1.3 Motronic FI, Bilsteins, CNPR Springs, Sway Bars, 16in Alpinas) but it does have rust and the interior is shot. I hate to use the cliche that its nothing structural, because you never know until you strip the car entirely but I can honestly say that there isn't any visible surface rust on the shock towers. I was going to fix this one up myself but was accepted for Naval Postgraduate School and won't have the time or the facitlities to work on it like I was hoping. Where are you stationed in the States? I'm in Camp Lejeune, NC. If you are interested let me know and maybe we can work something out.

It's all desert

Walt, thank you for the info but as you said, it is kind of th oppossite of what I am looking for. Stay safe and keep up the good fight. Alex

It's likely the white Coupe is now within your budget and I plan to help the seller move it along unless you are still interested...it's really in great condition for the price which likely will be just about where you want it to be.

Give me a PM

Ran

Thank you

I want to thank everyone in the forum that helped me find my latest coupe. A special thanks goes out to Shannon who took the time to drive and take pictures. It is people like him that make this forum what it is. A passionate group of people with a commom interest willing to help each other out. Thank you.

So here is the scoop. 1970 white 2800csa. 2 owner (father then son). The father picked it up in Germany in 1970. Lived in Berkeley Ca it whole life. VIN 2280501. It got a $5k paint job about 5 years ago. Still looks good with no rust bubbles. Underside looks great with no repairs. From the pictures it looks to be a real surviver. I paid $7750 for it.

I allready have a bored, stroked, forged (pistons and rods), low compression S38 on the engine stand I built before getting deployed. It will be a turbo motor. Along with a 265 5 speed and all the other parts needed for the conversion.

Yes I know what everyone is thinking, too much power for the chassis. I have done this before. I built a 450whp e9 11 years ago. The chassis will be reinforced. It will remain a street car with minor external mods.

Thank you again. From the desert:

Alex

PS: I tried attaching a picture but my internet is not very good today.

Looks like a great project. See the general discussion area, atan888's posting of "cool blog site" for some references videos of other high hp e9s.
